We’re featuring our freshest Afreshies and asking them why they joined! If you want to join the team, check out our Careers page for current openings.
Jack Lape is a Solutions Architect at Afresh who ensures our partners’ integrations go smoothly and sets them up for success. A big fan of both grocery stores and deep discussions about guacamole, Jack found Afresh a pear-fect place to make a big impact and an occasional bun...er...pun.
Why did you join Afresh?
I was looking for 3 things in a new job:
- I wanted an opportunity to make a big impact. Afresh is a small company and as such faces new challenges every week. Every employee can and does have a huge impact on these challenges.
- I needed to join a company whose mission makes the world better. It's easy (for me at least) to get excited about solving problems like food waste and therefore climate change.
- I was looking for a company with a viable business case and potential for economic upside. Money isn't everything, but it certainly doesn't hurt. At Afresh, we really are in the business of doing well by doing good.
What did you learn in your first few months / weeks?
So much about the grocery business! I had no idea how low the margins were, how store design impacts my own personal shopping decisions, or the sorts of things that keep grocers up at night. I loved going to the grocery store before, but now it's even more interesting!
What's something that surprised you about working at Afresh?
Honestly, Afresh has an incredible employee support system, especially for a company its size and vintage. The interview process, through offer and even into onboarding, was both rigorous and candidate/employee centric. I've worked for more mature companies who don't have any of this figured out nearly as well!
What are you excited about for the next 6-12 months?
Scale, scale, scale, scale! There's a lot for us to do to make it easier for new partners to launch our solution in their stores, and I can't wait to dig into these challenges.
Why should others join?
If you want to work for a company with a combination of the following: great product that customers want, really thoughtful leadership, loads of growth opportunity, real impact on one of the globe's most pressing issues, a team full of quality, quirky people who are happy to come to work every day.
